Health Center ceases daily social media COVID-19 updates

The Moniteau County Health Center announced Monday it would no longer be posting daily COVID-19 updates to its Facebook page, as it has been for much of the pandemic.

The Health Center's COVID-19 dashboard at moniteaucovid19.com will still update cases per day and month, positivity rate, hospitalizations and vaccinations given.

As of press time Tuesday, Moniteau County has just four active COVID-19 cases among members of the population; just one of those individuals is hospitalized for their symptoms. Active cases have steadily trickled toward zero during the past month as the spread of the coronavirus slows again; in the past four weeks, just 14 new cases have been recorded.

Previously, Moniteau County's active cases hit zero last year in May, and no new cases were reported until early in June 2020.

Moniteau County has now administered more vaccines than its total number of COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, according to numbers from the Health Center. In total, the Health Center has administered 1,898 vaccines, compared to the county's 1,889 total cases as of press time Tuesday.

The Health Center continues to urge the public to take actions to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including avoiding close contact with people who are sick; avoiding touching one's eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands; washing hands with soap and water regularly; cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces regularly; staying home if one feels sick; and adhering to proper social distancing by remaining 6 feet away from others and wearing a facial covering when engaging in tasks away from home.

Symptoms of COVID-19 may include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
