The Moniteau County Library Board set a date for the architect showcase for its future new building, determined a need for a new tech support system and welcomed a new board member to the group at its regular monthly meeting Wednesday, Nov. 17.

Continuing their plans for construction, the library board set a date for the architect showcase - Jan. 20, with an inclement weather date of Jan. 27 - after Library Director Connie Walker explained to the board that she had already been in contact with architects to prepare for the event.

Walker said the showcase will be a public forum where residents of Moniteau County would be able to evaluate various architects' body of work. Though the date has been decided, a location for the event is not yet set in stone.

Walker also updated the board regarding further issues and informed members that she submitted the library's Summer Reading Program grant application to the Missouri State Library. The grant would allow for a maximum of $10,000 to be awarded to the Moniteau County Library to operate their program during summer 2022.

While Walker said the organization is still reviewing submitted applications, the grant will be awarded sometime during the third week of January.

Walker also informed the board that the library is in need of a new tech support system. The library has been working with older technology for some time, she said, and it would be best to transition to a more modern system. Walker said the board is thinking about doing away with the library's old server, which would allow the library to have more room to save any information on more reliable and up-to-date technology. Walker said the board will hopefully be implementing a new tech support system by sometime next year.

During their meeting, the board also made sure to welcome Melissa Hindman as their member-at-large. Hindman will serve on the board until 2025. Acknowledging how difficult it can be to find the time to be part of various community groups, Walker said she and her fellow members were very happy to have Hindman as a part of the Moniteau County Library Board.

The library board's next regular monthly meeting will take place Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 10 a.m.
