Moniteau County's active COVID-19 cases remain steady so far in December

Moniteau County's active coronavirus case count has been holding steady so far in December.

The current active case count, as of press time Tuesday afternoon, is 90. The total case count for the county continues to approach 1,500, now standing at 1,487, and total deaths due to COVID-19 remain at 15.

Active cases have remained below 100 for the entirety of December so far; the streak is a reprieve for Moniteau County after active cases consistently exceeded 100 for more than a month starting Oct. 26 and ending after the last day of November. The slight downtick is a welcome one after the county added 601 new cases during November alone.

The Health Center, as always, urges everyone to take actions to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including avoiding close contact with people who are sick; avoiding touching one's eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands; washing hands with soap and water regularly; cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces regularly; staying home if one feels sick; and adhering to proper social distancing by remaining 6 feet away from others and wearing a facial covering when engaging in tasks away from home.

Symptoms of COVID-19 may include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
