Eidson scholarship qualifications released

Russellville High School released information regarding qualifications for this year's Elizabeth "Lizzie" Eidson Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship was established in June 2018 in memorial of Eidson, a Russellville student who passed away in an October 2017 car accident.

The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating RHS senior or a student who graduated from eighth grade at High Point. The winner may use the money for any post-high school pursuit, whether they plan to immediately enter the workforce, join the military, or attend a trade school, technical college or university. The scholarship information also indicates the award can be split between two winners, with each receiving $500. The application is due at High Point no later than March 31.

The application asks for interested applicants to detail their academic achievements, including lists of community service and extracurricular activities. There's also an essay prompt that asks for applicants to explain how they possess at least two of the following positive qualities, all possessed by Eidson: being accepting, having kindness, loyalty, dedication and being nurturing. Applicants are also asked to briefly describe how being awarded the scholarship would help them after high school.
