California shuts out Fulton on the road, improves to 2-0

FULTON, Mo. - The California Pintos improved to 2-0 on the season after Friday's 49-0 win against Fulton Hornets.

The game was scoreless after the first quarter, but then California got on the scoreboard with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Calen Kruger to Drake Schlup with 10:53 to go in the second quarter to take a 6-0 lead.

California scored on a 1-yard touchdown run by Teagan Higgins made it 14-0 with 5:35 to go before halftime.

California outscored Fulton 23-0 in third quarter to lead 37-0. Kruger threw a 22-yard pass to Dawson Gump, and Higgins ran for two more touchdowns in the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, California scored a defensive touchdown for the second week in a row when Kaden Bax returned an interception 40 yards into the end zone with 3:36 left in the game.

"We knew that our front line guys on both sides of the ball were coached up real well and we dominated on both sides of the line tonight," California coach Derek Scroggins said.

California will have its home opener next Friday against Blair Oaks (2-0). Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
