100 years ago

Tanks from World War 1 arrived for a visit to California. The tanks gave demonstrations of speed, facility of movement and power. Special speakers and soldiers returning from the war accompanied the tanks.

50 years ago

Members of the California Country Club voted overwhelmingly in favor of a proposition that authorized the board to exercise an option to buy 40 acres of land from Al Ciolli. Members also voted on another proposition that granted the board authority to hire an architect to submit a plan for improving the country club.

10 years ago

City officials elected in the April 7 municipal elections were sworn into office. They were: Ward 3 Alderman Patrick Baker, Ward 1 Alderman Tony Wineland, City Collector Becky Forsythe, Mayor Norris Gerhart and Ward 2 Alderman Cameron Freiner.

Prairie Home United Methodist Church Women hosted an Easter Egg Hunt for children ages 10 and under; the children met the Easter Bunny and found treat-filled eggs. There were three separate egg hunts - one for children ages 1-4, one for ages 5-7 and one for ages 8-10. There were first-, second- and third-place prizes for each category for those who found the most eggs, as well for those who found the golden egg. The only golden egg found was in the 8-10 group.
