Though the chance to compete in spring and summer sports may have been lost thanks to the pandemic, the Jamestown Eagles softball team is excited to finally get back on the field this fall.

Last year, the Eagles ended the season with a record of 7-14. Their season ended in the championship game of the Class 1 District 5 Tournament after a 12-2 loss to St. Elizabeth.

The players on the team are ready to get back onto the field, head coach Morgan Walters said.

"After having missed school and the opportunity to play some of their other spring and summer sports, the girls are excited for the opportunity to be back and playing for their team, school and community," Walters said.

The team wants to make the most of this season.

"Our goal this year is to not let COVID dampen our spirits," Walters said. "We're wanting to hit the field running full steam so we can get the most out of the season as possible. We have a community anxiously waiting for some ball games."

This season, the team is looking to build off the success they had in last year's district tournament, where the Eagles overwhelmed Macks Creek 15-1 in the semifinal game.

"I'd like to see this team play with their full potential every time they step foot on the field," Walters said. "We really saw this team shine in the first game of districts last year. That's the same team we want and expect to show up this year."

The players are more than willing to do what they need to do to help the team for this upcoming season.

"I love the drive that our girls have," Walters said. "Everyone is ambitious to play multiple positons and to do what they can to best provide for the team."
