California girls win in first round of Hermann tournament

HERMANN, Mo. - The California Pintos girls basketball team won in commanding fashion 62-27 on Jan. 27 against the Capital City Cavaliers in the first round of the Hermann tournament. California is now 14-3 on the year.

California led 18-9 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Pintos gave up only two points and led 38-11 by halftime. California outscored Capital City 17-11 in the third quarter to make it a 55-22 game at the end of the third quarter. The Pintos finished the game by outscoring the Cavaliers 7-5 in the fourth quarter.

Tristan Porter led the way for the Pintos with 13 points, followed by Paige Lamm with 10 points and Trishelle Porter with nine points.

The Pintos made 10 three-pointers in the game and went 8-13 from the free throw line.

The No. 1 seed Pintos will face the No. 4 seed Montgomery County Wildcats in the second round at 6 p.m today at Hermann High School. Montgomery County defeated Owensville 50-41 in its first round game. If California wins, the Pintos will play in the championship game at 8 p.m Friday. If the Pintos lose, they will play in the third place game at 6:30 p.m Friday.
