The California baseball team won 15-3 against Eldon on June 8. The team’s next contest is at 6 p.m. June 15 at home against Warsaw.

The California Pintos baseball team won its first game of summer baseball as they defeated the Eldon Mustangs in a 15-3 blowout June 8.

Head coach Steven Stock said it was fun for the team to finally get on the field and play.

"I was pleased with the boys up and down," Stock said. "They put the ball in play, they hit the ball well. Overall, I think they played well, and it was just a fun night to be back on the ballfield."

Eldon led 1-0 after the top of the first inning, but California would take a 2-1 lead after the bottom of the first.

The Pintos had two big innings in the game. The first was the bottom of the second inning, when the team scored six runs on seven hits in the inning to make it a 8-1 game. The team also forced one walk and had three steals in the inning.

The second big inning for California came in the bottom of the fourth inning, when the Pintos scored seven runs to make it a 15-1 game.

Stock said the big innings make things enjoyable.

"Everyone gets to be a part and contributes by getting hits, whatever it might be, scoring runs, and it just makes it enjoyable when you can use everybody and put a lot of runs across the plate," Stock said.

Eldon scored two runs in the last inning to give the game its final score of 15-3.

The team's next game is at home at 6 p.m. June 15 against Warsaw.
