Double-X Speedway ready to return this Sunday

The historic Double-X Speedway is ready to roar back as the Sunday night destination for race fans in 2021.

After taking the 2020 season off due to COVID restrictions forcing the cancellation of early season events, track owners Kyle and Carol Wirts are ready to welcome racers and fans back to the one-fourth mile oval in California. As in past seasons, 360 Winged Sprint Cars, Super Stocks and Hobby Stocks will be the weekly classes.

The 2021 racing season at Double-X is slated to kick off May 2. All 2021 graduating high school seniors get into the grandstands free with a current and valid school ID card. May 9 and 16 will feature the three weekly classes, also.

The month of May comes to a close with two special events.

May 23 will see the 360 Winged Sprints paying $2,000 to the feature event winner, and B Modifieds will be added to the card for their first appearance of 2021. Hobby Stocks and Super Stocks are also on the lineup. Central Missouri Security Services is making this event possible.

The annual Tribute to Jesse Hockett is slated for May 30. The Midwest Wingless Racing Association cars and stars will be on hand, along with the 360 Winged Sprints, Super Stocks and Hobby Stocks to honor one of the great drivers, taken from us too soon.

In the month of June, the Dylan Bias Memorial night is on June 6. June 13 is the "Old Timers" reunion, with drivers and cars from the past on display and ready to bench race all night long. The June 20 Father's Day Special will feature the 305 Winged Sprint Cars, presented by Missouri One Call, along with the three weekly classes. The month wraps up on June 27 with B Modifieds joining the 360 Winged Sprints, Hobby Stocks and Super Stocks.

There won't be any racing on July 4 so all can enjoy family time, but the next Sunday night is the eighth annual "Race for Riley" Riley Hudson Memorial Race. Many prizes are available for young race fans this evening. Pure Stocks will be joining the three weekly classes for this event. On July 18, the 305 Winged Sprints will join the card, presented by Sonic of California. The three weekly classes will also be in competition. July closes out with the Racing back to School Backpack Giveaway. Tyler Utz Racing and friends are collecting school supplies all summer to give backpacks with school supplies away to area students on this night. If you would like to donate to this event, contact Tyler Utz at 660-281-3480. The 360 Winged Sprints, Hobby Stocks and Super Stocks will be in competition

The season wraps up on Aug. 1, with Central Missouri Security Services adding prize money making the 360 Winged Sprint Feature pay $2,000 as the victor's share. Hobby Stocks and Super Stocks will also be competing on this Championship night at Double-X.
