Mary K. Wood, age 80, of California, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at Moniteau Care Center with her son by her side. She was born May 18,1939, in Moniteau County, the only child of Harvey and Irene Baker Hodler. On July 6, 1957, she was united in marriage to Clyde Wood, who preceded her in death on April 17, 2002. She was a graduate of California R-1 High School. She worked as a shoe inspector for many years at Stride-Rite in Tipton and did laundry for all the residents of Latham Care Center until she had a stroke in 1993. After her stroke, she took care of her granddaughter, Felicia. Mary was a faithful member of the Annunciation Catholic Church in California where she was also a part of the Annunciation Catholic Church Quilters. She was always known for the donation of her famous angel food cakes to all the church dinners and her grab bags at the church picnic. She enjoyed playing cards, rummy and pitch especially. Going to the boat to play penny slots was always a favorite way to pass her time. Clyde and Mary always had a big garden, but even after he passed away, she still kept a smaller one for her tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, and lettuce. She loved to watch the birds outside and enjoyed feeding them. Her back yard was full of turtle doves, all kinds of finches, and lots of hummingbirds. If any black birds or blue jays came, she was known by her neighbors for lighting firecrackers to scare them off. Mary was also known for setting fires in her burn barrel after the yard work was finished. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-granddaughter were the highlight of her life. Mary is survived by one son and his wife, Roy and Amy Wood of California; four grandchildren, Felicia "Sunshine" Braun and her husband Ethan of Stover, Liam "Little Britches" Wood, Jaden "The Tall One" Griffin and Rylee "Dimples" Hagerman, all of California; one great-granddaughter, Rosaleen Irene Braun of Stover; sister-in-law, Lois "My Special Angel" Jenkins of California; many other relatives, nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Judy Wood. Mass of Christian Burial wias at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2019, at Annunciation Catholic Church in California, Mo. Officiating was Father Tony Rinaldo. Burial was at the Annunciation Catholic Cemetery. Memorials were suggested to the Annunciation Catholic Cemetery or Annunciation Quilters Guild. Arrangements were under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Service, California, Mo.
