Elsie Meyer

Elsie Meyer, 71, of California, Mo., passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at home surrounded by her family. Elsie was born on November 17, 1948, the daughter of Paul and Lucille (Comer) Yarnell. On December 2, 1967 she was united in marriage at First Baptist Church, Clarksburg, Mo., to Billy Joe Meyer, who survives of the home. Elsie graduated from Tipton High School in 1967. She was employed at Burger's Smokehouse and later as a cook at California Elementary School. She was of the Baptist faith and was currently attending the United Church of Christ in California, Mo. Elsie was an avid horse lover and she spent many years showing Appaloosa horses. In later years, she joined the Percheron Horse Association and enjoyed horse drawn farm work and carriage work. She was a member of the Missouri Draft Horse and Mule Association and was the 2017 Member of the Year. She thoroughly enjoyed the World Percheron Congress and she traveled all around the United States to attend these Congresses. For 51 years Elsie and Billy had camped at the Missouri State Fair where they would attend all the horse shows possible. They also liked to attend other state fairs across the United States making many friends along the way. Additional hobbies include camping, crappie fishing, attending all kinds of festivals and meeting her family and friends at Nic Nac Café. She was a member of the 'Breakfast Club and Thursday Night Supper Club' and was the driver for "Elsie's Oats Bus". Elsie is survived by her husband; daughter, Carla Meyer, Clarksburg, Mo.; son, Asa Meyer of California, Mo.; mother, Lucille Barbour of California, Mo.; grandchildren, Dakota (Sarah) Meyer of Colorado Springs, Colo., Casandra Rogers of Eldon, Mo., Brenden Lodato of Jefferson City, Mo.; one great-grandson, Anthony Meyer of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Russell Yarnell, California, Mo.; two sisters, Kathy (Larry) Murphy of California, Mo. and Sherry (Richard) Tuttle, Clarksburg, Mo.; one step-brother, Joe A Barbour and one step-sister, Pauline Klenz, both of Lomita, Calif.; one step-sister-in-law, Lois Ann Barbour of Granbury, Texas; one very special aunt, Lois Jean Heather; and many nieces, nephews and family and friends who were like family. She was preceded in death by her father; three brothers, Bobby Dean, Billie Don and Dennis Paul Yarnell; step-father, Virgil Barbour; one step-brother, Jimmie Barbour; and two step-sisters, Mae Gordon and Judy Blankenship. Elsie's kind heart and loving spirit touched the lives of many in her life. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Service, California, Mo. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be Rev. Russell Cobb. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice Compassus or Missouri Draft Horse and Mule Association, c/o the funeral home. The family would like to thank Hospice Compassus for their amazing help and support during Elsie's last few days.
