J. D. Althoff

J. D. Althoff, age 85, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, Mo. J. D. was born July 24, 1934, in Enon, Mo., to Herman Althoff and Leona (Sauerhage) Althoff. In 1953, he graduated from Russellville High School. J. D. married Ruth Finley at Eldon, Mo. on August 31, 1956. He was a lifelong carpenter. From 1965-70 along with his wife operated Daylight Donut Shop in California, Mo. J. D. owned and operated Althoff Home Improvement from 1970-1999. He was a member and Deacon of Salem Baptist Church. He was a full time volunteer with several missions groups for 18 years, until his health sidelined him. J. D. loved his Lord and Savior and loved serving Him with his carpenter skills in remodeling and new construction of churches and church campgrounds, working not only in Missouri, but in several states across our nation. For 37 years, he volunteered with the California Rural Fire Department and served as Chief for several years. Along with his parents, J. D.was preceded in death by one brother, Leroy Althoff; and three sisters, Laverne Payne, Gladys Scrivner and Nadine Robertson. Along with his wife Ruth, he is survived by one daughter, Melody Roth of Jefferson City; three grandchildren, Nichole Roth, Dakota Roth (Tottie Gardner) all of Jefferson City, and Tanner Roth of New Franklin; two great-grandsons, Wyatt and James Calvin "J. C." Roth; one sister-in-law, Frances Althoff of California, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Service for J. D. was held on Sunday, December 22, 2019, at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Guy Thomas and Rev. Roy Barnard officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Salem Baptist Church.
