Charles Vernon Lenger

Charles Vernon Lenger, 86, died peacefully in his Wooldridge, Mo. home on Tuesday, September 10, 2019. Vernon was born on April 14, 1933, in Prairie Home, Mo. to Waldemar and Louise Lenger (Stock). Following graduation from Prairie Home High School in 1951, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served for one year in Korea achieving the rank of Corporal with decorated service. His pride in Military Service was recently displayed when he was a member of the Central Missouri Honor Flight that took him to Washington D.C. to visit the monuments and memorials with fellow veterans - - - an experience of a lifetime. Following his return from the Korean War, he married Lola Marie Stock in Prairie Home, Mo., on June 23,1957. He was a member of the Prairie Home School Board during his children's high school years and was a lifelong, faithful member of the Pleasant Grove Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he also served as a board member for many years. Through the years he was employed by, Huber Fiber Board (Boonville, Mo.), Heider Manufacturing (California, Mo.), and Fuqua Homes (Boonville, Mo.), but it was on his farm where Vernon found the greatest joy in his work. He is preceded in death by his parents, Waldemar and Louise Lenger (Stock); a brother, Aubrey Lenger; and a sister-in-law, Kathryn Lenger. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lola Lenger (Stock) of the home; a brother, Norman Lenger (Pat), Boonville, Mo.; an aunt, Audrey Lenger, Boonville, Mo.; a son, Gary Lenger (Kim), Columbia, Mo.; two daughters, Pamela Vassar (Jack), Olathe, Kan., and Connie Gerdt (Kevin), Wooldridge, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Emily Lenger, Ashley Smith, Kourtney Vassar, Kyle Vassar, Parker Gerdt, Amanda Skultka, and Amy Weathers; three great-grandchildren, Zackary Brice, Jackson Weathers, Owen Weathers, with one great-grandchild to be born in January, 2020. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at Pleasant Grove Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Luther Herman officiating. Burial followed in the Pleasant Grove Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Central Missouri Honor Flight, Pleasant Grove Immanuel Lutheran Church, or Pleasant Grove Lutheran Cemetery.
