Max D. Wolfrum

Max D. Wolfrum, age 88, of Webster Groves, died Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at his home. Max was born July 30, 1931, at home near California, Mo. Max graduated from California High School in 1949. He served in the Army in Korea from 1953 to 1954. He obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Doctorate from Washington University. Max began teaching English at Webster Groves High School, where he continued his career until retirement. He served as chairman of the English department, director of secondary education, assistant superintendent, associate superintendent and superintendent until his retirement in 1991. After retirement, Max served as interim superintendent for Ferguson-Florissant School District, Special School District and Ritenour. He is survived by his wife, Judy Cheek; son, Robert Wolfrum (Marcia Koenig); daughters, Julie McHugh (Peter McHugh) and Jill Broz (Dave Broz); stepsons, Chris and Jon Cheek (Stacey Cheek); eight grandchildren; brothers, Larry Boyd and Jerry Wolfrum (Verna Wolfrum); and sisters, Bonnie Wolfrum and Carolyn Arms. Max donated his body to Washington University Medical School. A celebration of his life will be held from 3-6 p.m. on February 1, 2020, at First Congregational Church in Webster Groves.
