Gary Lee BardwellMay 20th, 2020
Gary Lee Bardwell, 73, of California, Missouri, passed away Tuesday May 12, 2020, with his daughters and grandkids around him. He was born August 17, 1946, in Kansas City, Kansas, the oldest of seven children. Gary loved the outdoors, fishing, fixing things, crafts, wood working, dancing and just being fun with his kids and grandkids. He was an avid nascar fan, antique shopper, and collector of old trucks and model trains. He was a hard working, energetic man, always finding something to work on or do. He would recycle and pick up walnuts with the grandkids and give the grandkids the money to go get candy and a drink which in his words was the "good part of life". He loved his morning coffee from Casey's General store and a good bologna sandwich with pepper and hot sauce. Don't forget the hot sauce. Many will remember him as putting a smile on everyone's faces and "acting" goofy. He was always being silly with his grandkids and active in their lives. He would take them for midnight swims, jump in the kiddy pool for a swim or even a mud puddle in the middle of the road fully clothed. Gary also had a way with animals and could never say no to his daughters sneaking pet frogs into the basement. He had a kind heart and a humorous soul. Gary worked several jobs over his life but retired after over 30 years from Cargill. Gary is survived by his daughters, Angela (Scott) Bardwell-Holmes, Jennifer (Hank) Borghardt, Leigh Ann (Jeff) Beier; grandchildren, Christopher, Ashley, Katelyn, Austin, and Brayden; siblings, Joe, Alan, Davy, and Jerry Bardwell; and one sister, Kathy Bardwell along with several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Edward and Bonnie Bardwell; brothers, Larry and Eddie Bardwell; and grandchild, Jesse Borghardt. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family of Gary Lee Bardwell. Visitation will be held at Bowlin Cantriel Funeral Home Friday May 22, 2020, from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. with a graveside service to follow at the California City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services of California, Mo.
