Jeanine Genevieve Lutz, age 90, of Tipton, Missouri, died on Monday, October 12, 2020, with her family at her side at California Care Center in California, Missouri. Jean was born on November 3, 1929, in Tipton, Missouri, the fourth of five children of Fred and Lea Schmidt. She graduated from Tipton High School in 1947 and was married on November 13, 1949, to Leo Lutz. They had six children together. Jean survived dementia for the better part of 12 years and most recently recovered from the coronavirus in April of 2020. While she couldn't always recall what she did yesterday, she remembered and was grateful for those who looked after her and there were many. Jean was always thankful (as were her children) for the watchful eye of others... many close friends who followed her home from church or the grocery store to see that she arrived safely. Also, her friends who helped her with her breakfast order at the coffee shop "I believe I'll have that too" or" that sounds good to me" were familiar responses from Jean. She was not always eager for others to be made aware of her struggles with her memory; still, she embodied the spirit of pushing through her condition to try and live as normal as possible for as long as possible - and that, she accomplished admirably. Jean was a fantastic cook, and she passed on her love and knowledge of preparing wonderful meals to her children and grandchildren. She was well known for her delicious food in the Tipton area and catered many events for a quarter-century. Jean loved entertaining and hosted "Therapy" a woman's group for many years. She also enjoyed gardening and pushed mowed her yard well into her 80's. She was a lifelong member of St. Andrew's Church and a longtime member of St. Andrew's Altar Society. She is survived by her children: Nancy Knipp of Jefferson City, Missouri; Burl Lutz of Ashland, Missouri; Wanda Higgins of Jefferson City, Missouri; Mike Lutz (Shelly) of California, Missouri; and Joe Lutz of Tipton, Missouri; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren across the United States. Along with her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Lutz; son, Bruce Lutz; son-in-law, Ralph Knipp; brothers, Conrad, Pat, and Ray Schmidt; and sister, Marilyn Marcum. Due to Coronavirus, a public viewing will be held on Friday, October 16, 2020 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., without the presence of family/receiving line. A Mass will be held for immediate family members only, following the visitation at St. Andrew's Church, Tipton.
