Kenneth E. Wittenberger, 91, of California, Mo., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 26, 2015. He was born January 8, 1924, in Jamestown, Mo. Kenneth was preceded in death by his mother, father and five sisters. He is survived by: his wife of 50 years, LaVerne Wittenberger; son Dale and wife Beth and grandson Ethan. Kenneth was an ordained minister for 45 years with the Pentecostal Church of God, pastoring churches in Versailles, Butler and Eldon Mo. A decorated veteran of WWII, he served in the Third Infantry Division in the European Theater. Landing in Africa, then onto Italy, France, Austria and Germany. Kenneth was awarded the good conduct medal, sharp shooters medal, European theater of war medal, oak leaf cluster with three battle stars and the Bronze Star for "service above and beyond the call of duty." He will be fondly remembered for his love of his family, service to God and his Country. Visitation was from 11:00-12:00 on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Monty Roark and assisted by Rev. Tom Mustain. Burial was held at the California City Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to Casa Shalom Orphanage, Rebecca and Dan Walsh, STR. Donitel 15, Sector 6, 061994 Bucharest-Romania c/o the funeral home. Arrangements were under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak St., California, Mo. 65018.
