Naomi M Hopkins

Naomi M. Hopkins, 93, of Lee's Summit Mo., passed away Saturday, December 19, 2015. Naomi was born December 9, 1922, in Jamestown, Mo., to Frank T. and Luella L. Sperber. She attended a rural grade school and graduated from Prairie Home High School. Naomi moved to Kansas City in 1940 to attend Central Business College on a scholarship she had received. She worked at the Forum Cafeteria while going to school. In 1942, she went to work at Oldsmobile, who was making projectiles for the war effort, working in material and purchasing. After World War II she transferred to the Chevrolet regional sales office. Later she transferred to the plant manager's office retiring in 1988 as executive secretary. Naomi was very active during retirement. She was a longtime member of Ivanhoe United Church of Christ, an active member of the Lake Winnebago Lion's Club and held the position of president for two years, and served as alderman for four years at Lake Winnebago. She belonged to several retiree and singles groups, Shepherd's Center of Lee's Summit and for 14 years she served on the board and was treasurer of the Blue Springs Terrace, Inc. She was also a member of American Business Women's Assn. for many years and the General Motors Retiree Club. She also was very involved in philanthropy. She and her husbands traveled extensively, not only in the United States, but around the world. After their deaths, she continued traveling with friends. She also enjoyed stamp collecting and crafts. Survivors include: her three nephews, David Sperber of Harrisonville, Mo., Douglas Sperber of Bentonville, Ark., and Dwayne Sperber of Delafield, Wis.; eight great-nieces and nephews; one great-great-niece; and her longtime companion, Kenneth Burnett. Naomi was preceded in death by: her husbands, James Russell Hopkins of 38 years, William Leonard White of Longfield, and Kent England of three and one-half years. Her father died in 1990, her mother in 1991, and brother, Donald Sperber, in 2008. Visitation will be at 12 p.m., followed by funeral services at 1 p.m., Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, Mo. Interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Ivanhoe United Church of Christ, Raytown, Mo.
