Ruby Mills

Ruby (Murphy) Mills, 66, of Odessa, Mo., formerly of California, Mo., passed away on Monday, June 29, 2015, at St. Mary's Hospital in Blue Springs, Mo. She was born in California, Mo., on November 15, 1948, to Delbert and Edith (Anderson) Murphy, both of whom preceded her in death. Ruby was a 1966 graduate of California High School and went on to graduate from Lincoln University and Stephens College to receive her registered nursing degree. She was united in marriage on December 19, 1971, at Main Street Baptist Church to Jerry Mills. Ruby taught nursing at Nichols Career Center and Lex La-Ray Technical Center. She enjoyed cross stitch, cooking, Sudoku, casinos, reading and playing dominoes. Ruby is survived by: one son, Clint Mills of Blue Springs, Mo.; one daughter, Melissa McAllister and husband Rob of Ankeny, Iowa; two Maw Maws boys, Jack and Sam McAllister; two brothers, Larry Murphy and Lex Murphy both of California, Mo.; four sisters: twin sister, Judy Alkire of Dawn, Mo., Joyce York of Latham, Mo., Jeanne Miller of California, Mo., Linda Kesler of Jefferson City, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a baby brother, Ralph Murphy. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2015, at the Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home. Burial was held at Old Salem Cemetery north of California. Visitation was held from 1-3 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2015, also at the funeral home.
