James Dean Hartley, 52, California, MO departed this world March 6, 2015 in the early morning hours at Capital Region Medical Center. He was completely at peace and surrounded by family and friends. After graduation from California High School in 1980 he began a 25 plus years employment with Cargill Inc. On the 23rd of January 1982 he was united in marriage to Carol Sperry who preceded him in death on July 27th, 2008 . He was a devoted husband and always said "how you doing babe" when returning each day from work. Carol reported to her sister that when Jim came home from work it was the happiest time of her day. Jim enjoyed fishing, and every kind of hunting, as well as talking to friends across the country on his CB radio. One of his highlights was his European Vacation to Germany, Switzerland and Amsterdam. A recent family trip to Florida was also something he cherished and spoke of fondly. Jim could be found on many summer days mowing at the Village Green Shopping Center. On Saturdays Carol and Jim cleaned Flag Spring Church for many years. They said that was their time with God, and church members would periodically find anonymous offerings in the alter plate Sunday mornings. Jim had unconditional love for his children and grandchildren, and loved seeing and teasing them. His nieces and nephews enjoyed his fishing stories, which always got bigger and better as the years past. Jim's friends were very important to him and he retained many of these friendships since grade school.
