Herbert Daniel Raithel

Herbert Daniel Raithel, 89, of Russellville, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital. He was born January 25, 1929, in Lohman, Missouri, the son of the late Martin Oscar and Lenora Kathryn (Simmons) Raithel. After graduating from Russellville High School, Herb enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950 and was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant in 1954. He was united in marriage on January 23, 1954, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Russellville to Loretta Scott, who survives at the home. Herb worked for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years as a rural letter carrier retiring in 1998. He also loved to work on his farm growing crops, and raising cattle, especially Hereford cattle. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge, Gideon's, past commander of the Moreau Valley American Legion, board member of the Russellville School Board for nine years, and was a board member of the Russellville area Fire Protection for three years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and wood working. Survivors include his wife, Loretta Raithel, Russellville; three children all of Russellville, Teresa Gier, Greg (Glenda) Raithel, Jenice (Jeff) Payne; eight grandchildren, Jake Gier, Kelly (Sean) Petet, Emma (Bret) Bodenhamer, Ben Payne, Allie (Devin) Hillman, Becca (Cole) Edwards, Abby (Stephen) Schnieders, Kaley (Josh) Hettich; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Diane Raithel; a son-in-law, Joe Gier; a brother, Bud (sister-in-law Dorothy) Raithel; and a sister, Edna (brother-in-law Cromer) Poole. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Homes in Russellville. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, with Pastor Alan Earls officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Enloe Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Enloe Cemetery, or Gideons International. Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Homes in Russellville is in charge of the arrangements.
