Mary Johanna Kennedy

KENNEDY Mary Johanna Kennedy, 88, of Russellville, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital. She was born October 24, 1930, in Perry County, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Eddie and Goldie (Brown) Edwards. She was united in marriage on September 30, 1950, in Gideon, Missouri, to James Idaho Kennedy who preceded her in death on August 9, 1997. Johanna was a loving and caring homemaker to her family and also provided babysitting for many years to over 84 local children. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and Women On Mission. Johanna was skilled at decorating plates, crafting Christmas stockings, sewing and quilting, and tending to her flower garden. Her greatest love was her family especially her grandchildren. Survivors include three children, Don (Sarah) Kennedy, Henley; Debbie (Mike) Thompson, Russellville; Paul (Sherri) Kennedy, Russellville; nine grandchildren, Rebecca, Megan, Emily, Preston, Anna, Lauren, Jennifer, John, Adam; nine great-grandchildren; and five siblings, Marie Carter, Conway, Ark.; Ulalah Young, Oppelo, Ark.; Lavern Cornia, Jacksonville, Ark.; Margaret Ann Edwards, Jacksonville, Ark.; and Linda (Larry Don) Kelly, Kennett, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Kennedy; and a brother, Harvel Edwards. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2019, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Alan Earls and Pastor Preston Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Enloe Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
