Charles “Charlie” William Brown, 87, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 16, 2023, at California Care Center.
He was born in Osawatomie, Kansas, on February 16, 1936, a son to the late Howard L. and Dora C. (Rodewald) Brown.
He was united in marriage to Marie Hamilton on November 25, 1961, she preceded him in death on August 14, 2007. On November 26, 2010, he was married to Carmen Haworth in Jefferson City, she survives at the home.
Charlie was a 1958 graduate from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas, where he gained his Bachelor’s Degree. He worked for United/Sprint Telephone Company from 1963 to 1987. He then went to work for the Missouri Public Service Commission from 1986, until his retirement. Following his retirement, Charlie worked at Whaley’s Pharmacy as an ambassador.
Charlie was a lifelong member of Delta-Tau-Delta while he was at Baker University and was also a member of Bakers’ Football Team. He was the President of the Jay Band Boosters from 1984 to 1986. Along with his ambassador work, Charlie also volunteered at Capital Region Medical Center. He served in various roles at Concord Baptist Church until his health no longer allowed him to continue. He is survived by his wife, Carmen; daughter, Carol Brown; sister-in-law, Sue McDowell; brother-in-law, Dale King; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Juanita King; and brother-in-law, Fred McDowell.
Friends will be received on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. A funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
