Description

Food: While continuing to serve Donnie Ferneau's ambitious New American cooking at dinner, this fashionable Hillcrest restaurant is now also open for lunch four days a week. The Burger, a best bet on the lunch menu, is an 8-ounce patty at least an inch thick that tastes enough like a good steak to possibly fool a blindfolded diner. It comes with delectable kettle fries. Also among the best around is the Crab Cake, almost creamy in the middle with a crusty exterior. The scrumptious Roasted Tomato Soup is chunky and intensely flavorful with an infusion of heavy cream. The Hummus boasts more texture and flavor than many versions of this mashed chickpea spread. The Cajun Chicken Caesar lacks the kick its name implies.
Mood: The main dining room with its stylish medley of light wood floors, black chairs and tablecloths, wavy ceiling and strings of little track lights makes a congenial setting for chat-filled lunches. Reservations are taken only for parties of six or more, with the bar area serving as an overflow location at the peak of lunch traffic.
Moolah: Prices for the 12 dishes on the lunch menu range from $4.50 for the Roasted Tomato Soup to $12 for the Crab Cake With Mixed Green Salad. The Burger is $9.50. - Jack Schnedler
