Finke Theatre filled with music and memories
Wednesday, October 13, 2010
he Finke Theatre was filled Saturday evening by an appreciative audience for the appearance of singer George Kurowski at the Historic Finke Theatre.
George Kurowski was introduced by Dr. Peter Kurowski, who pastors St. Paul's Lutheran Church and is his brother.
During the first half of the performance themed "Music for the Soul: Rock and Roll," Kurowski vocal music brought back memories as he sang a number of selections made popular by a variety of music legends including Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Jim Reeves, Marty Robinson and Harry Chapin. After an intermission, he concluded the performance with selections from the works of Elvis Presley, including the patriotic "American Trio."
Several Gospel tunes emphasized the role of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, California, in bringing Kurowski to the theater. The performance was among the community events sponsored in part by the church in honor of its 150th anniversary.
The event was part of the community outreach of the church in celebration of it's founding 150 year ago and was sponsored by the church and another local sponsor. It was also sponsored in part by the Oneida Nation Arts Program.
