California Area Chamber of Commerce Meets

The California Area Chamber of Commerce Board met Thursday, July 14, at City Hall. Guests included Ken Parrett, Moniteau County Regional Economic Development and Richard Schroeder, Moniteau County Historical Society Genealogy Library. Topics discussed included Gary Miller resigning from the Chamber due to time conflicts. The Board will look at possible times to meet during the day and possibly at night to serve both the Chamber Board and members at large better.

Parrett gave a briefing on the mission and purpose of MRED which includes being a local economic developer, attracting new businesses to the area and retention of existing businesses.

Schroeder spoke about the mission and expansion of the genealogy library which currently is housed in a 20 x 20 ft. area. The plan is to build an addition which would be a 60 x 24 ft. room. Many use the library for family histories, cemetery records, newspaper records, school records, historic photograph, slave records and church records among others.

A motion by Norris Gerhart seconded by Brad Baer was to schedule a ribbon cutting for the new Habitat for Humanity aluminum can shelter at California Lanes Bowling Alley. The motion carried.
