Moniteau County Fair To Have Fourth Annual BBQ Contest

On Saturday, Aug. 6, the Moniteau County Fair will have two barbecue contests at the fairgrounds. There will be two age groups for the Kids' Que barbecue contest, Ages 12 and under and ages 13-18. Children can cook any ground meat such as hamburger, sausage or brats. Set up for the Kids' Que is 3:30 p.m. with a 4:45 p.m. turn in. There can be no recooked meats. The Adult Barbecue Contest will feature three classes Pork Steak, Chicken and Fan Favorite. One $40 entry fee, 20 x 20 space with electricity provided. Pork steak entries are due on the judge's table by 4 p.m. with chicken by 4:30 p.m. Judging of each category is Pork Steak (six small portions), Chicken (six pieces of chicken) and Fan Favorite (samples to fans). Judging is based on appearance, appeal, taste and tenderness. First Place for each category will receive $200, with Second Place ($100), Third Place ($50) and Fourth Place ($25). Awards will be presented at 5:15 p.m. with the Barbecue Contest Champion receiving $200 and the Reserve Champion ($100).
