Cole County R-1 School Board Meets

The Cole County R-1 School Board held its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, May 19. The Board adopted the agenda and the administrators presented their reports.

Under new business, the Board voted to approve the consent agenda as presented. The Board approved a payroll fund transfer of $197,000.

James Stark, track project manager, presented the bids for the new track to the Board. The bids were as follows: Higgins Asphalt bid $1,050,063 to be completed in 180 days; Twehous Excavating bid $1,106,750 to be completed in 120 days; JC Industries bid $1,132,659 to be completed in 180 days; Jeff Schnieders Excavating $1,174,220 to be completed in 130 days; Don Schneiders Excavating bid $1,179,808 to be completed in 150 days; and Emery Sapp & Sons bid $1,259,072 to be completed in 150 days. After much discussion and deliberation, the Board voted to accept the Twehous Excavating bid as the best bid for the district.

The Board approved modifying board policy GCPB to include a penalty of $500 for requesting to be let out of their contract after it has been signed during the April to May 31 time period. The Board approved the bid of $23,331.87 from Sound Solutions to do the DVR Video Camera upgrades for both buildings as the best bid. All Systems bid, $21,995.00; ISG bid $33,176.31; and American Digital Security bid $34,288.20. The Board approved the copy machine bid from KOPI in the amount $832.52 per month for 60 months as the best bid. Advanced Image Systems bid $846 per month for 60 months and Data Comm bid $1,419 a month for 60 months. The Board voted to accept the bid from Luebbert Hardwood Flooring for $14,250 to strip the finish down to the wood and completely refinish it with new floor designs. Acme Floor Co., Inc bid $17,950.

In closed session, the Board voted to accept a letter of resignation from J. C. Howard. The Board accepted letters of resignation from Maureen Rucker, Curtis Bowling and Jennifer Scheperle. The Board voted to employ Vicky King as a special services teacher; Russell Foster as a middle school teacher; Kevin Shively as a vocational agriculture teacher; Anne Brennecke as the HUG teacher; Laurie Bonchonsky as a second grade teacher; Gala Dempsey as a fifth grade teacher; and Jerry Koestner as a part-time middle school PE teacher. The Board voted to employ Lucas Branson, Ashley Karle and Danielle Ball as paraprofessionals. The Board also voted to re-employ the non-certified staff.

The June Board meeting will be June 14, at 6:30 p.m.
