Lady Indians clinch Class 1 State Cross Country title again

The Russellville High School girls varsity cross country runners, the defending Class 1 state champions, won the Class 1 District 3 cross country title at Vienna Oct. 29 to advance to the 2011 State Cross Country Championships Saturday, Nov. 5, at Oak Hills Golf Center, Jefferson City. Individually, each of the Lady Indians finished in the top 15 at the district meet to earn All-District honors. In the boys' division, Russellville's Alex Thompson finished 13th individually to earn All-District honors and advance to the state championships as well. The Russellville varsity girls cross country team has much to celebrate after winning the Class 1 State Cross Country Championships Saturday at Oak Hills Golf Center, Jefferson City. Last year, which was Russellville's first trip to the state cross country meet, the Lady Indians won the title by just one point, however, this year was a different story as they secured first place with a 13-point cushion (86 points) to defeat second place finisher Salisbury (99 points). Plato finished in third place with 108.
