CHS Speech Team competes in Stover Invitational

Friday, Nov. 4, the CHS speech team competed in the Stover Invitational Speech Tournament. Eighteen students competed in eleven events against students from fourteen other schools.

Overall, California placed fourth, with Eldon in first, Warrensburg in second, and Helias in third.

After two rounds of intense competition, eight students went on to compete in the final rounds.

Kassi Meisenheimer placed first in Poetry, third in Humorous Interpretation, and first in Dramatic Interpretation. Maria Banda placed third in Prose and fourth in Dramatic Interpretation.

Haley McMillian placed seventh in Humorous Interpretation; Rebecca Porter placed fifth in Original Works; and Walter Juarez placed third in Original Oratory and eighth in Storytelling.

This was the team's second meet of the season. They placed fourth in the Smith-Cotton Invitational Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 15.

"I had many first time competitors or new partners performing at this tournament and all placed fairly well in the first two rounds," said coach Tiffany Brown.

California's next competition will be the Cole Camp Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 3.
