California High School students travel back in time to the Renaissance

California High School drama club attended the Renaissance Festival in Bonner Springs, Kansas, on Saturday, Sept. 24.

This was the sixth RenFest trip for the drama club, and the largest one yet. A total of 42 students attended, with five faculty members as chaperones.

The Renaissance Festival has different themed weekends throughout the year. The drama club went during Irish weekend. Theywatched jousting, participated in barbarian sword fights, visited shops, and dined on turkey legs.

It has always been a popular club event. The kids really have a lot of fun, no matter who they and what they are into, there is always something for everyone at RenFest.

"So many people are there enjoying it," said sponsor Tiffany Brown. "You cannot tell the workers from the people. I love that in RenFest, you can be a part of the action."

"I love dressing up," senior Corina Castillo said. "I like being something I?m not for a day." This was Corina's fourth year attending the Renaissance festival with the drama club.

However, the best thing about the Renaissance Festival was definitely the memories. The way home was filled with tales from the festival, each different and unique and special to each member. The stories are something that these students will never forget.

It is because of these memories that students want to keep returning to the Renaissance Festival, even after their high school careers are over.

"I'll definitely go back after high school," said senior Kassi Meisenheimer, "and in the future will take my kids to explore as well."
