Denise McMillen Joins California Democrat as Advertising Director

While going to school to be an E.M.T., Denise McMillen started working for the company which owned the Sweet Springs Herald and Slater News Rustler newspapers. Little did she know this would be the start of a career in newspapers which has lasted over 35 years.

McMillen is the new advertising director at the California Democrat. Previously she has had ties with the California Democrat through working at the Sedalia Democrat and the News Tribune.

"It is a fun job," McMillen said. "I work with fun people. It is challenging to find the right 'recipe' to help build people's businesses. McDonald's has always sold hamburgers, but they are always finding new ways to sell those hamburgers. So that is our job as sales people, to find out what is going to ring the cash register of our businesses and help them. We partner with them and work to help them meet their bottom line."
