Christmas parades begin Saturday

"A Disney Christmas" is the theme for the annual California Christmas parade. It will begin at 5 p.m., Dec. 1. All entries must be lighted. If a float is being sponsored, the name of the sponsor is to be on the float. Please bring your entry form when you come to line-up.

Everyone - churches, civic clubs, schools, organizations, businesses and individuals - is encouraged to participate.

Floats will be judged and prizes given for first, second and third places. Chamber bucks gift certificates will be awarded in the amounts of $50, $30 and $20 respectively.

The parade line-up will begin at 4 p.m. at the California swimming pool located on Stella Street. At 5 p.m the parade will proceed east on Stella turning right on Owen Street, then left on Patrick Street and left again on Oak Street. The parade will proceed north through the uptown business district turning right on East South Street, then left on High Street through part of the downtown business district and terminating at the courthouse.

Following the lighting of the Christmas tree on the southwest corner of the lawn and the announcement of parade winners. Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet children at Commerce Bank. Christmas carols will be provided by "Sounds of Joy." Pictures will be taken of children with Santa and Mrs. Claus and may be purchased from the chamber for $2 each.

Jamestown

The Jamestown Lions Club Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec.1, at 10:30 a.m.  For more information contact Brooke Imhoff at 849-2252.

The City of Jamestown will sponsor a Christmas decorating contest.  Entries can include lights, yard decorations and ornaments and will be open to all residents, businesses, churches and organizations within the city limits. There will be a first, second and third place winner of the contest. Winners will be announced prior to Christmas.

Russellville

The annual Russellville Christmas Parade will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 8. Participants may gather at St. Michael's church parking lot. The parade route will begin going east on Minnie Street, then north on Smith Street. It will turn west on Jefferson Street and then south on Simpson Street. Finally, the route will turn west on Railroad Avenue to return to St. Michael's parking lot. Santa will distribute goodies to the children in front of the Community Bank of Russellville. All churches, school groups, businesses and civic organizations are encouraged to participate.

Prairie Home

The annual Prairie Home Christmas Parade will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8. Santa will be at Prairie Home School directly after the parade. There will also be a craft show at the school from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., as well as a brunch at the school 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
