Two State Fair Community horticulture students placed first in their contest areas at the national Post-Secondary Agriculture Students Organization (PAS) conference in March in Louisville, Ky.
Penny Warner, Ionia, placed first in the Floriculture Employment Interview contest and Sue Meyer, Sedalia, placed first in Career Progress-Horticulture, Environmental and Natural Resource Systems.
The SFCC Soil Specialist team finished fifth out of 23 teams, besting teams from several four-year universities. Team members are Devon Stemberger and Dylan Wittman, Tipton, and Travis Warner, LaMonte.
Ryan Meyers, Mexico, completed his term as the national PAS vice president. Meyers has represented SFCC and the Missouri PAS organization the past year.
Ag instructor Brad Driskill was elected chairman of the national PAS board of directors. He is serving a three-year term on the board.
Driskill and instructor Mark Albright accompanied 18 SFCC agriculture and horticulture students to the conference, which was attended by than 750 students from two-year and four-year colleges. Students participated in leadership activities, workshops, public speaking, mock interviews, career planning activities and career specialist contest areas.
