Prairie Home boys

The #4 seeded Panthers faced top-seeded Glasgow in the semifinal round of the Class 1 District 9 Tournament Friday at Jamestown, where Prairie Home lost 66-35 to end the season 15-12.

Previously in the district tourney, the Panthers faced #5 seeded Jamestown in the opening round Feb. 19, where they came away with a 53-26 win to advance to semifinals.

Prairie Home led 10-4 after one quarter and went on to outscore Jamestown 12-8, 12-8 and 19-6 to secure the win, 53-26.

Trever Huth led the Panthers with 21 points, followed by Sam Distler with 10. Kody Utterback and Rayce Kendrick chipped in with eight points each.

"Defensively we played great for most of the game," Prairie Home Coach Jesse Oswald said. "We had a couple of miscues, but otherwise we rode our defense hard tonight. We kept Jamestown off balance most of the game and didn't let them get many good shots off. This is a good way to start districts, but the celebration is going to be short-lived. We face a very tough Glasgow team in semifinals. We will do everything we can to get ready for them and prepare ourselves for success one way or another."

Glasgow went on to defeat #2 seeded Community 52-51, in overtime, to capture the district championship Saturday.

Jamestown girls

After defeating #6 seeded Higbee 70-39 in the opening round of the Class 1 District 9 Tournament Feb. 18 at Jamestown, the #3 seeded Lady Eagles suffered a 60-23 loss to #2 seeded Glasglow Feb. 20, in the semifinal round.

Mackenzie Strother led Jamestown with seven points. Monica Dietzel and Alli Muri each chipped in with five points.

"We struggled to score throughout the game and our shots were off," Jamestown Coach E.H. Hirschvogel said. "Glasgow is a good team. We just turned the ball over too much and missed too many shots to make a run at them."

Jamestown ends the season 12-14.

"Overall, the season was a success in so many ways," Hirschvogel said. "We didn't have any seniors this season, so I believe we will be tougher next year. Also, we grew together as a team. I want to thank all of the Jamestown fans for following us all season long."

In the other semifinal game Wednesday, top-seeded Chamois defeated #4 seeded Community 43-11 to advance to the championship game.

Glasgow went on to lose the championship game 47-37 to top-seeded Chamois Saturday.
