Hunt continues for CHS boys track records

Mystery still surrounds the whereabouts of the California High School boys' track records. CHS Head Track Coach Rick Edwards said he discovered the boys' records were missing during his first year as the CHS track coach 15 years ago. "Geary Labuary was the boys' track coach several years before me and he said he never saw the boys' records. Over the years, I've heard they might have been lost in the move to the new high school."

At some point after the new high school was built, the sports records, which were posted on a wall at the middle school, were moved to the new facility. It is believed the boys' track records were damaged, misplaced or lost in the move.

Recent discussions by concerned citizens interested in helping find the lost records spurred the possible existence of a picture or home video that might have captured the track records in the background.

If anyone can locate an old picture or video taken in the middle school gym that shows the boys' track records, please contact April Arnett at the California Democrat at 573-796-2135.

A close-up glimpse, one good view, might be all that is needed to see the boys' track record board and hopefully get them documented once again.

CHS track alumni who have information that might be helpful are also encouraged to call or stop by the Democrat. All information can be verified through the California Democrat archives.

"We have to start somewhere," Edwards said. "We really need to find these records. We need documentation of the records because they have to be accurate."

According to Edwards, there are a total of 18 events in boys' track.
