The Prairie Home varsity baseball team faced the #4 seeded Bunceton Dragons Saturday in first-round action at the Class 1 District 10 Tournament at New Franklin, where the #5 seeded Panthers suffered a loss, 11-6.
Bunceton got off to an early 4-0 lead after the first inning, and led 9-0 after two. Prairie Home scored three runs in the third inning to trail 9-3. The Dragons added one run in the third and another in the fourth to lead 11-3. The Panthers brought one run home in the fifth inning and two in the seventh, but it was too little, too late as Bunceton took the win, 11-6.
Trever Huth led Prairie Home hits with two singles, while Jonathan Brandes and Kody Utterback each contributed a triple.
The Panthers end the season 2-6.
Bunceton went on to lose 6-3 to top-seeded Pilot Grove Monday night in the semifinal round. In the other semifinal game Monday, #2 seeded New Franklin defeated #6 seeded Jamestown 10-0.
Pilot Grove will play New Franklin for the district championship game at 6 p.m. today (Wednesday).
