The Moniteau County Historical Society met Aug. 11 with President Dottie Gump presiding. A short business meeting was held.

A three-party agreement between Benny Hainen, City of Tipton and the society relating to the veterans memorial to be located in the Tipton park was presented for consideration. It was requested that a meeting between the three be scheduled.

Last minute arrangements for the society's annual ice cream social to be held Aug. 16 were discussed. David Jungmeyer, chair of the museum committee stated they were in need of a few items for the museum - a vintage china cabinet, two manikins and a short span of iron fence. He hoped a member or a person in the community would donate these items.

The program of the evening was presented by John Drake Robinson, former state Director of Tourism. As a result he has written two books detailing his long journey - "A Road trip in America's Hidden Heart -Traveling the Back Roads, Backwoods and Back Yards" and "Coastal Missouri -Driving on the Edge of the Wild." He shared with a large audience the wide variety of experiences during his years of travel to complete the task.

The society's next meeting will be on Sept. 8.
