CHS FFA Barnwarming held in new Ag shop

The California FFA chapter kicked off the opening of the new facility addition with the annual chapter Barnwarming. It was made possible by the 2014 Bond Issue.

The event began on Friday, Dec. 5, with a dance in the new Ag Shop. About 90 members and guests were present. Following about two hours marked by music and dancing, the Barnwarming Queen and King candidates were presented. They were: Freshman class, Madison Ratcliff and Jon Pardoe; Sophomores, Lindsey VanDieren and Grant Hofstetter; Juniors, Sarah Bryant and Ethan Hodges: and Seniors, Madelyn Jobe and Garrett Imhoff.

The first of the games, won by the seniors, was an obstacle course filled with lawn mower riding, bale ring climbing, and barrel racing, all in a small indoor course.

The next game put a big lead for the juniors when Ethan Hodges managed to drink a pint of milk from a calf bottle in record time, smoking all of his competition. The seniors came back in the third game with a neck-to-neck race to saw and hammer nails into a piece of wood.

The fourth game of the night, a corn-on-the-cob eating contest, pushed the juniors to the front.

As a finale, the Barnwarming Committee had its own secret game in store to end the night.

All candidates were presented with a large chunk of pork head cheese. Most participants were unable to complete the challenge, which consisted of eating the head cheese.

After the points were totaled, Juniors took the title. Queen Sarah and King Ethan were crowned.

The California FFA chapter Barnwarming ended after a few more line dances and everyone had a great time!
