The Cardinal Caravan coming to Jefferson City

The annual Cardinal Caravan is traveling to 18 cities this month and will stop Jan. 17 at the Missouri Farm Bureau Center in Jefferson City. The St. Louis Cardinals finished last year as National League Champions, ending the season after losing the World Series to the Boston Red Sox.

Cardinal teammates Michael Wacha, Tyler Lyons, Jermaine Curtis and Stephen Piscotty will be available for questions and sign autographs. Wacha was named National League Championship Series Most Valuable Player last year. Also on hand will be Cardinal alumni Alan Benes and John Costello, and team mascot, Fredbird. Cardinal announcer John Rooney emcees the event.

Doors at the Missouri Farm Bureau Center, 701 S. Country Club Dr., open to the public at 4:30 p.m. The event is free. The program starts at 6 p.m., followed by autographs for those with caravan autograph tickets. The tickets will be provided to the first 400 children, ages 15 and under, and guarantee one autograph from each current and former player.

Missouri Farm Bureau Insurance is hosting the Caravan stop and plans to show fans a great time. Farm Bureau Insurance and the St. Louis Cardinals have worked closely together during the past few years to raise funds for the March of Dimes, and the Caravan is no exception. Profits from hot dogs, chips, popcorn, soda and bottled water sold at the event will go to the March of Dimes. Co-sponsors for the food and beverages are the Jefferson City Hy-Vee and Jefferson City Coca Cola Bottling Company.

Raffle tickets for Cardinal memorabilia will also be sold to raise funds for the March of Dimes. Farm Bureau Insurance raised almost $3,000 during the 2013 Cardinal Caravan event.
