Stingrays excel at conference meet at Centralia

The California Stingrays swim team participated in the conference meet at Centralia Saturday, the final meet of the 2014 season for the Mid-Missouri Conference, where the top three finishers in each event earned a medal.

"Our kids did great," California Coach Jamie Johnston said. "We had lots of personal records as well as two club records. Amber Trachsel broke the Girls 11-12 Backstroke record and Brooklyn VanLoo, Jaley Flippin, Amber Trachsel and Zoe Zimmerman broke the Girls 11-13 200 Meter Freestyle Relay record for the second time this season. We had a great day and a great season. I couldn't be prouder of our swimmers."

Stingrays who finished in the top four of their event are as follows. In the Girls 8 and Under 100 Meter Freestyle Relay, the team of Isabelle Rohrbach, Ella Bailey, Mari Miller and Zoe Street placed third with 1:50.36; Girls 9-10 100 Meter Freestyle Relay, the team of Madison McCord, Abby Trachsel, Kaylee Menhennet and Elizabeth Turner, fourth, 1:24.12; Mixed 11-13 200 Meter Freestyle Relay, the team of Tyler Johnston, Alyssa Sabartinelli, Megan VanLoo and Nathan Pickering, third, 2:40.21; and Girls 11-13 200 Meter Freestyle Relay, the team of Jaley Flippin, Zoe Zimmerman, Brooklyn VanLoo and Amber Trachsel, second, 2:24.56.

In the Boys 10 and Under 100 Meter Individual Medley (IM), Enoch Dunnaway placed fourth with 2:13.55; Girls 10 and Under 100 Meter IM, Elizabeth Turner fourth, 2:02.59; Boys 11-12 100 Meter IM, Tyler Johnston fourth, 1:36.30; Boys 13-14 100 Meter IM, Jack Johnston third, 1:38.71; Girls 13-14 100 Meter IM, Brooklyn VanLoo third, 1:32.54; and Women 15-18 100 Meter IM, Kaylee VanLoo fourth, 1:34.42.

In the Boys 7-8 25 Meter Backstroke, Gavin Porter placed fourth with 26.75; Girls 7-8 25 Meter Backstroke, Isabella Kincaid second, 25.67, Zoe Street third, 26.27, and Isabelle Rohrbach fourth, 26.46; Girls 11-12 50 Meter Backstroke, Amber Trachsel first, 38.93; and Men 15-18 50 Meter Backstroke, Gavin Porter first, 36.44.

In the Girls 7-8 25 Meter Freestyle, Isabella Kincaid placed first with 19.03; Boys 11-12 50 Meter Freestyle, Tyler Johnston fourth, 36.37; and Men 15-18 50 Meter Freestyle, Luke Burger fourth, 30.01.

In the Girls 7-8 25 Meter Breaststroke, Isabella Kincaid placed second with 26.76, and Mari Miller fourth, 30.32; Boys 9-10 25 Meter Breaststroke, Will Pickering fourth, 26.66; Boys 11-12 50 Meter Breaststroke, Tyler Johnston second, 46.05; Boys 13-14 50 Meter Breaststroke, Jack Johnston third, 41.31; Girls 13-14 50 Meter Breaststroke, Brooklyn VanLoo third, 45.20; Men 15-18 50 Meter Breaststroke, Gavin Pickering third, 43.57; Women 15-18 50 Meter Breaststroke, Audrey Pickering fourth, 46.47; and Girls 100 Meter Breaststroke, Brooklyn VanLoo fourth, 1:39.17.

In the Boys 7-8 25 Meter Butterfly, Gavin Porter placed third with 28.78; Girls 7-8 25 Meter Butterfly, Isabella Kincaid third, 25.09; Girls 11-12 50 Meter Butterfly, Amber Trachsel second, 37.97; Boys 13-14 50 Meter Butterfly, Nathan Pickering fourth, 37.14; and Men 15-18 50 Meter Butterfly, Luke Burger second, 31.08.

In the Girls 8 an Under 100 Meter Medley Relay, the team of Zoe Street, Mari Miller, Isabella Kincaid and Isabelle Rohrbach placed first with 1:59.84; Girls 9-10 100 Meter Medley Relay, the team of Gabrielle Rohrbach, Elizabeth Turner, Abby Trachsel and Madison McCord, second, 1:44.37; and Mixed 11-13 200 Meter Medley Relay, the team of Megan VanLoo, Tyler Johnston, Nathan Pickering and Zoe Zimmerman, second, 3:00.15.

In the Girls 11-13 200 Meter Medley Relay, the team of Alyssa Sabartinelli, Brooklyn VanLoo, Amber Trachsel and Jaley Flippin placed fourth with 2:52.73; and Mixed 14-18 200 Meter Medley Relay, the team of Gavin Pickering, Jack Johnston, Luke Burger and Kaylee VanLoo, first, 2:24.60.

Three of the Stingrays' relay teams have broken records this season. On June 18, the team of Brooklyn VanLoo, Tyler Johnston, Jaley Flippin and Nathan Pickering set a new record of 2:24.09 in the Mixed 11-13 200 Meter Freestyle Relay. On June 25, in the Mixed 8 and Under 100 Meter Freestyle Relay, the team of Gavin Porter, Kierstyn Lawson, Zoe Street and Isabella Kincaid set a new record of 2:24.97, and in the Girls 11-13 200 Meter Freestyle Relay, the team of Brooklyn VanLoo, Zoe Zimmerman, Jaley Flippin and Amber Trachsel set a new record of 2:24.97, which the team broke at the conference meet Saturday, with a time of 2:24.56.

"Our goal is to purchase a new record board over the winter, and their names will be on it," Johnston said.

Two Stingrays who set individual records this season are Isabella Kincaid in the Girls 7-8 25 Meter Freestyle with 18.83, and Amber Trachsel in the Girls 11-12 25 Meter Backstroke with 38.93.
