Tuesday is Primary Election day

The Primary election on Tuesday, Aug. 5, will decide between hopeful party candidates for the national scene, a few state-wide offices, one county office and several proposed constitutional amendments.

On the national scene, voters will decide their party's candidate for the November election for Fourth District United States Representative in Congress. Candidates for that office are: Republicans Vicky Hartzler - incumbent; John Webb; Democrat Nate Irvin; and Libertarians Randall (Randy) Langkraehr and Herschel L. Young.

On the state scene, voters will decide on their party's candidates for November for State Auditor and Sixth District State Senator. Candidates for State Auditor are: Republican Tom Schweich and Constitution Party Rodney Farthing. Candidates for State Senator are: Democrat Mollie Kristen Freebairn, Republican Mike Kehoe and Libertarian Sean O'Toole.

The only contested county office is that of Moniteau County Clerk, with three candidates, all on the Republican ticket. The winner of three-way race between Amanda Trimble, Lance Fulks and Roberta Elliott, will go on to run unopposed in the November election.

Running unopposed for state and local offices and in the primary election are: Republicans Caleb Jones - Rep. 50th District; David Wood - Rep. 58th District; Peggy Richardson - Associate Circuit Judge; Kenneth E. Kunze - Presiding County Commissioner; Michele A. Higgins - Circuit Clerk and Ex Officio Recorder of Deeds; Shayne W. Healea - Prosecuting Attorney; Sarah B. Jones - County Treasurer, and Democrat Cheryl K. Duvall - Moniteau County Collector of Revenue.

There are five proposed constitutional amendments. It would be advisable for voters to read the amendments carefully before going to the polls to cast their vote on these matters.
