Tipton school lunch prices unchanged for 2014-15

The Tipton R-VI School Board approved, at the June 16 meeting, keeping the school lunch prices the same. Superintendent Scott Jarvis explained to the board that the calculations did not require the prices being changed. Lunch prices are: K-6 lunch - $1.80; 7-12 lunch $2.05; reduced price lunch - 40 cents; adult lunch - $2.35; and extra lunch entrees - $1. Breakfast prices are: student breakfast - $1; reduced price breakfast - 30 cents; extra breakfast entrees - 75 cents; adult breakfast - $1.30; extra milk - 35 cents.

Jarvis informed the board that a formal request has been received from a parent to remove two books from the high school library. The books are not on the required reading list.

Jarvis said the school will follow the school policy, by which the principal creates a committee to review the books in question. A written report of the findings and recommendation will be submitted to the principal. The principal will report the recommendations to the complainant. If not satisfied with the decision, an appeal may be made to the superintendent. The board will be informed when the results are available.

Under new business, the board took a first look at some additional junior high / high school curriculums.

Elementary Principal Kelly Kohler reported 226 students were enrolled in the Summer School Adventure. Average daily attendance has been 200 to 210. Enrollment was reported at 35 in kindergarten, 31 in Primary I (first grade), 60 in Primary II (second and third grade) and 100 in Intermediate (fourth through seventh grade).
