California Elementary School Hosts Donuts with Dads

California Elementary School hosted Donuts with Dads, which is a special breakfast for a student and male role model, Friday, Oct. 10.

Students kindergarten through fifth grade along with dads had a chance to talk and eat breakfast prepared by the elementary cooks.

Salute to Pearl Harbor Harry Drumheller, 88, of Pine Bluff, who was in the Army Air Corps stationed at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, salutes during the playing of taps at the Pearl Harbor Commemoration held at the state Capitol on Monday. He was among only a few survivors present at this year’s ceremony honoring the veterans of the Japanese attack.

This event was organized by the elementary staff to build relationships with the dads of the students, as well as, a way to promote how important their involvement is within the education of their child.

The elementary kitchen staff arrived at 6:15 a.m. to make and serve biscuits and gravy, cereal, fruit, milk and juice to the large crowd.

The event was held in California Elementary School cafeteria. Students were allowed to bring any male guardian to share breakfast. According to Food Service Director Dale Graff, "201 dads were served and 390 students between 7 and 8 a.m."

Donuts with Dads has been going on for five years and it was a successful event as children bonded with fathers during breakfast.
