It took them three different sites across four days to get it done, but the third-seeded Jamestown Lady Eagles were able to capture the title in the Class 1 District 9 Tournament.

The Lady Eagles started the event Wednesday at the original site for the tournament, New Franklin, and topped sixth-seeded Prairie Home by a 5-1 score.

Stephanie Birkmann and Alli Muri had one hit and two RBIs each to lead Jamestown. Mackenzie Strother had three hits, Mickayla Strother added two, and Darian Wolfe drove in one run.

Birkmann got the win, throwing a two-hitter and striking out three.

"They certainly brought their A-game against us and made us earn it," Coach E.H. Hirschvogel said.

The tournament then moved because of the heavy rains to Central Methodist University, Fayette, for Friday's semifinals. There, the Lady Eagles posted an 11-6 win against second-seeded Pilot Grove.

Wolfe racked up three hits and four RBIs to lead the way, while Birkmann had one hit and two RBI. Mackenzie Strother and Jordan Oerly added one hit and one RBI apiece, while Muri drove in one run.

Birkmann scattered 11 hits while getting the win, striking out 4 in a complete-game effort.

"Our girls were just able to make big plays, catch a few breaks and win the game against a very good Pilot Grove team that had beaten us earlier this yea by a score of 10-0," the coach said.

The tournament was on the move again Saturday, ending up at Hickman High School, where Jamestown took out top-seeded New Franklin 5-4.

Jamestown actually held a 5-0 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh before letting New Franklin put up a four-spot on the scoreboard. But the Lady Eagles held the potential tying run at third and the winning run at second to get the victory.

Wolfe had one hit and three RBIs, Oerly had one hit and one RBI and Muri drove in the other run.

Birkmann gave up zero earned runs while scattering six hits and striking out seven in another complete-game effort.

Jamestown (16-6) will play today (Wednesday) at Sturgeon (7-14) in a sectional contest.

"I cannot begin to express my pride for the girls for playing their absolute best game of the year in what was without a doubt the biggest game of the year," the coach said. "Our crowd was big and electric and I want them to know how important that was for us."
