Alan Sibley and the Magnolia Ramblers, a bluegrass gospel group from Mississippi, played at Prairie Home United Methodist Church on Sunday morning. Fellowship dinner, hosted by Glenda Sells and Amy Small, followed the performance. It was the third of four engagements on the band's tour of central Missouri. They also played at the Cowboy Church in Tipton, Friendship Christian Fellowship in New Franklin, and United Church of Christ in Boonville.

Members of the FCCLA attended the Leadership Conference at Tan-Tar-A Sunday and Monday. Students attending were Nina Cherry, Sage Eichenburch, Sam Distler, Ben Kixmiller, Cecelia Wright and Josey Wright. They were accompanied by adviser Tina Misener.

The CCAA Band Clinic is Oct. 21 at Pilot Grove. The Junior High Band clinician is Dr. Dori Wagoner of Central Methodist University. Selections for the Junior High Band include March of the Patriots, Mystic Dance, Scenes of Russia, Shenandoah, and Big Top Rag. The High School Band will be under the direction of Steve Litwiller, retired band director from Boonville High School. The High School Band will be playing America Exultant, The Forge of Vulcan, Flash Flood, In the Bleak Midwinter, and I Want to Hold Your Hand. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. with admission of $2/adult and $1/student.

Prairie Home R-V is participating in the 2014 Make a Difference Day sponsored by USA Weekend and the Points of Light Foundation. This is a national day of doing good which focuses on helping others in the community. The school is participating in a food drive to benefit The Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri. Prairie Home students will be competing with other schools in Central Missouri and Northeast Missouri to see who can collect the most food for neighbors in need. Students will be collecting food through Friday, Oct. 17. To participate bring non-perishable items and no glass. Contributions will help feed those in need in Cooper County.

Mark your calendars for the 3rd Annual Prairie Home 5k Run/Walk on Wednesday, Nov. 26. Runners, walkers, children in strollers and dogs on leashes are all welcome at this family event. The cheerleaders sponsor the event as a fundraiser to get ready for the 2014-15 season.

Dean Barker, social studies teacher, is planning the annual Veterans Day observance. If you have a photo of a veteran you would like included in the presentation, please submit by Nov. 7. Photos may be given to school secretary Karma Haller in the school office or emailed to [email protected]. Please include the name of the veteran and his/her relation to student(s) or community member. If you submit a picture to be scanned, please let the school know how it may be returned to you.

It's time to submit those Box Tops for Education you have been saving for Prairie Home PTO. Please send Box Tops to the school by Monday, Oct. 20.
