The California High School softball teams hosted Prairie Home Thursday at the California Sports Complex, where the varsity suffered a 22-2 loss to the Lady Panthers in four innings.

Prairie Home got off to an early 9-2 lead after the first inning, then added two runs in the second to lead 11-2. The Lady Panthers scored three runs in the third inning and eight in the fourth, while holding the Lady Pintos scoreless for the rest of the contest to secure the win, 22-2, in four innings.

Makayla Zey recorded the win for Prairie Home with two strikeouts.

"Pitching is everything in softball," Prairie Home Coach Linda Scott said. "Zey had a nice game and only walked one. This was a good game for us."

Scott added, "We did a good job at the plate, waiting for a pitch to hit. Haven Pennington had a double and a single and drove in five runs. We've been hitting the ball well. Defensively we made the plays we needed and Kim Hettinger had two catches in left field to end the rally."

Sam Beckham recorded the loss for California with two strikeouts.

Braleigh Johnson led California hits with two singles and one RBI. Erica Volkart had a single and one RBI, and Beckham contributed a single as well.

California's JV lost a close contest to Prairie Home, 7-6.

The Lady Pintos will participate in the South Callaway Tournament Saturday at Mokane.
