Baseball: California roundup

OSAGE - The Pintos totaled 14 hits in their 16-6 win over the School of the Osage last Thursday, a day before playing in the Calvary Lutheran/New Bloomfield tournament over the weekend.

"We put together a complete game, probably our fist complete game," said California coach Jason Gatlin. "(Osage) made some errors and we took advantage of it with base running. It was a good solid, complete game."

California (4-2, 1-1 Tri-County Conference) scored six runs in the second to pull ahead 6-1, then three in the third and two in the fourth to extend the lead to 11-3. The Indians cut the lead to 11-6, but the Pintos scored five in the seventh to put the game away.

Kory Stephens singled to right in the third inning to score Alex Dalbey and Jacob Adams, and his single in the fifth scored two more, this time Greg Schroeter and Jacob Wolken crossed the plate.

Dalbey and Stephens led the Pinto offense, each batting 4-for-5. Stephens had four RBI and Dalbey had one. No other player recorded multiple hits for California, but six Pintos did record at least one hit.

Eli Freeman started the game on the hill, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits, two strikeouts, and he walked five in 2 2/3 innings. Jackson Trachsel pitched the next 1 1/3 innings, striking out three and allowing only one hit and no runs. Jaden Barr finished the final three innings, earning the win. He struck out seven, walked two, and allowed three runs, all earned, on three hits.
