ELDON - The Mustangs outhit California 12-6 en route to a 4-1 win against the Pintos Tuesday, April 21. Eldon scored two runs in the first and two runs in the fifth and that proved to be enough.

Hunter Heimericks started on hill for California, allowing 12 hits and four runs - two earned.

After California went down 1-2-3 in the top of the first, Eldon started its half of the inning with two singles and a walk. After a strike out, the Mustangs got another single to take the 2-0 lead. In the fifth, Eldon started off the inning with a triple and a single to score its third run. An error later in the inning allowed another run.

Eldon had seven of its 12 hits in those two innings.

Greg Schroeter scored a run in the top of the fifth, cutting the lead to 2-1. Sam Kirby singled to the second baseman with two outs to score the run. Earlier in the inning, Kyle Lee grounded into a double play to the pitcher. After getting the out at first, Jacob Wolken tried to score, but was out on the play.

Eldon and California junior varsity ended in a 2-2 tie.

California back in win column

VERSAILLES - Jaden Barr was a home run away from hitting for the cycle, batting 3-for-3 with a walk in the Pintos 6-3 win over Versailles Friday. The Pintos outhit the Tigers 9-6.

Jackson Trachsel and Kory Stephens also had multi-hit games, and Eli Freeman and Greg Schroeter had doubles for California's last two hits.

After scoring the first run of the game in the first inning, the Tigers jumped out to a 3-2 lead. But a two-run seventh inning sealed the win for the diamond Pintos.

Barr tripled home Stephens in the first, but Versailles answered in its half of the inning to tie the game at 1. Jacob Wolken reached on an error in the second to score Freeman, then the Tigers pushed two across in the bottom of the third to take their first lead of the game.

Trachsel had a pair of RBI in the third and fifth innings, scoring Barr on both occasions. In the third, he grounded out to second, and in the fifth he hit a line drive to center to allow the Pintos to retake the lead 4-3.

The Pintos junior varsity beat Versailles 11-10.

California (7-4, 2-2 Tri-County Conference) will host Harrisburg Thursday at 5 p.m. and will take part in the Centralia Round Robin this weekend. This record does not include the Pintos' game against Southern Boone on Tuesday.
